Australian Quantum at the AI for Good Global Summit
Quantum for All: Innovation, Access and Impact
At the 2025 AI for Good Global Summit in Geneva, QBits attended the panel “Quantum for All”, part of the Quantum Track on Day 2 (July 8th, 2025). The session explored how to make quantum technology globally impactful and ethically grounded, learning from the oversight challenges exposed by AI’s rapid rise.
Moderated by Diederick Croese (Centre for Quantum & Society, Netherlands), the panel featured:
- Clare Shelley-Egan (TU Delft), who asked whether “Quantum for Good” will be a meaningful framework or just a slogan. She drew parallels with nanotech, where early hype gave way to much more mundane realities.
- Justine Lacey (CSIRO, Australia), who presented findings from applied research across 383 stakeholder interviews. She highlighted a gap between ethical rhetoric and real-world readiness, though national strategies like Australia’s are setting the pace.
- Mira Wolf-Bauwens (GESDA / Open Quantum Institute), who emphasized the importance of ecosystem behavior over technical specs. She advocated for early-stage, responsible innovation frameworks that support underfunded startups and cross-industry collaboration.
Panelists agreed: responsible quantum development needs to happen now, not later. From regulation to equity, public engagement to applied ethics, the foundations laid today will determine tomorrow’s outcomes. Australia, through CSIRO and national strategy efforts, was spotlighted as a key voice shaping this global conversation.
This session was one of several on the Quantum Track at AI for Good.
